Sex Education: Please! Do not ban this!
Don't you think banning sex education from the school curriculum is in a bad taste? Isn't it an important part of our learning?
So, when the Health Ministry suggested that sex education must be banned from the school curriculum, I was a little taken aback. I have not yet come to terms as to why I was taken aback but it did remind me of my teenage years. The years, when there was a lot of confusion regarding everything in life. On one hand, I was dealing with my inability to deal or interact with the opposite sex while on the other, I was busy figuring out the science behind basic aspects of life, like ‘how are babies born?’ Sometimes, I would feel helpless. My friends would discuss about sex and porn, and some other beautiful things, only to be ignored by me as I considered sex and porn to be sins of life. Such a shame for a boy of my age! The science books didn’t help either. The description about the most important part of life was given in such a boring way, I thought playing beyblade and watching pokemon were much better options. It has to be taken into account that if you are trying to inculcate some basic knowledge into a child, it has to be done in an attractive and interesting manner. Otherwise, even Doordarshan is a blooming prospect. And only when I was around 15, I came to know about ‘what was what’ and ‘what to put where’ stuffs. Scary at first, but I slowly got accustomed to those general truths of life. So, if it hadn’t been for Tory Black or Sasha Grey, I would still have been an unfortunate human being.

But with the suggestion to ban
sex education, I fear most of the Indian teenagers would go through the same
kind of confusing times, provided that they have no access to the world wide
web. The proposed plan of the Health Ministry is based on the growing violent
nature amongst teenage boys regarding sex and the cases of rapes, which has
sadly become a common occurrence. So, to stop crimes against women, students
across the country would be deprived of knowing about sex and the various terms
related to it. And this is where the Ministry is wrong. If you really want to
stop crimes against women and ensure a mature society, you have got to educate
all the students about the basic facts of sex, and not keep them in the dark
about it. Everybody must be educated about the pre-requisites and consequences
of sex, such as safe sex, contraceptive pills and various other important
issues. Most of the criminals who commit rape are illiterate. Sexually
transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS are spread due to the lack of knowledge
about safe sex. Unplanned pregnancy is also the result of not having adequate
knowledge before jumping on to the bed with a loved one. So, if the Ministry
really wants to ensure better integrity within the society, sex education must
not be banned from the curriculum. And every student must be ensured about the
‘what’s what’ of sex. Properly trained teachers should also be ensured;
otherwise the part of the curriculum containing basic facts about the sex life
would be a wasted opportunity. Instead of stupidly proposing a ban on it, the
Ministry should have promoted education on sex in a more concrete manner. Sex
education should be regarded as basic rights for every student. Trust me, you
don’t want to see your country with confused couples on their wedding night!
That would be horrendous!
Gud appeal bro
ReplyDeleteHas your mom read this.?!
ReplyDeleteMy mom doesnt read my blogs to know me.she knows me more than anybody in this universe. :)
DeleteI am sure it is what u say it is but still if your mum ever reads this I wonder what her reaction would be like. Lol.
ReplyDeleteIf there would have been a so called class, I guess it would have been the most attended subject in rgi... And you know why.. That is because of entertainment not because of the curiosity of learning.. There is more negativity than reality now in this world.. The thing that you lightened here is a matter to be discussed broadly.. But am not against you... Sex education should prevail... Long live superman..!
