Me Too: The Rise of the Warrior Goddesses

The lady I will be referring to here is an amazing and wonderful person. Her intelligence aspect is beyond the imagination of a normal human being. The benevolent presence of her existence is pure magic. The exquisite smile on her alluring face has the competency to make your contrition day into a cheerful one. If happiness was a person, it would be her. Her sheer brilliance in the field of savvy was showcased to the world when she topped the national law entrance test a few years ago. This daughter of the nation made everyone around her proud. A person of her stature seldom grace our Mother Earth. An enchanting a personality as her, she had to unfortunately deal with a couple of predators from our Indian society. Somewhere between modern day and that, this extremely strong lady had a couple of encounters where she had to voice #MeToo.

As Indians, we merely show pity to the victim as being an unaware individual and let it pass. We condemn it. We protest. We carry out candlelight rallies. We use hashtags. We let the movement grow big so that it creates a mass awareness. This is commendable. This is the reaction of the incident. But have we ever given a thought as to why such incidents continue to happen in an era where human beings have evolved to greater heights in terms of technology and living standards? And yet, the augmentation of the mental realm is far from developing. The sheer number of women coming out to share their terrifying encounters, wherein a higher positioned male had exploited her sexually at one point of a bygone time, is something we must all be ashamed of. We all are equally part of this. Shamelessly.

And we ask why didn't she come out earlier? Why didn't she raise her voice when the incident took place? Why is she coming out and voicing her grievances now? Why is she creating a drama and making a publicity out of all this?

Rang a bell? Why does she wear revealing clothes? Why does she return home late? Why does she smoke and drink and blah blah? Yes, as a civilization we have planted the root of this evil long back. We possess the audacity to question only the victim. We are shameless as shit. As a society. As human beings. As living beings of this entire universe.

Such incidents will continue to take place unless we strive for a change. There will be speeches aftermath. People will make awareness videos. A few will write articles. A few, blog posts. Others, news reporting. A few others, interviews. This will be an endless cycle which will go on forever.

The simple thing is that we don't respect our fellow humans, let alone women. We think women are weak and vulnerable. We, as a society have always looked down on women. We still think women are a liability to a family. Killing off baby girls in their fetus is still a thing of present. We don't value our women. As simple as that.

And the irony is that huge effigies of Ravana are burnt every year around this time. But will the real catastrophes of the society get burnt out for good? Ever?
