An Open Note for the Politicians
First of all, Congratulations to BJP for sweeping the recently
concluded polls in several of the states.
And also, congratulations to Congress for reigning supreme in
Punjab.
India, being the largest democracy on this planet serves a bigger responsibility towards other countries. When we
proclaim about our suffrage, we feel proud to be Indians. Democracy is a powerful tool
which is of the people, by the people and for the people. Many countries in
this world don’t enjoy this right. Countries like North Korea are just a
mockery in the name of democracy where people are offered only one sole candidate
for voting. No prizes for guessing who! And the funny thing there is, voting is an extremely strict rule. Countries like China have no
meaningful opposition for legitimate elections to be even held. Similar is the
condition in countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Libya and many others. Considering the position of people in these countries, we should be blessed and indeed
be grateful of the government system in our country. Every 5 years, we can
choose our leader through an election, be it in our States or at the Centre. In
simple words, every 5 years, we are given a choice to change the government by
electing them out if we are not satisfied with their work.
Victory in Uttar Pradesh, one of the biggest states in our country
means that the BJP is still maintaining strong foothold over large areas of our
country. It is a cause of happiness and a proof that Modi’s work is being
appreciated by people of all fields. But this doesn’t mean that the support
would remain constant forever. The people have chosen their leaders in the hope
that BJP brings about some developmental change which the previous governments
failed to. Most parts of UP can be considered in the poorest of the poor
and are one of the most backward places of the country. The previous
Governments have merely played the caste or religion card when it came to
wooing the voters and thus stole away their votes. The use of cash, which were
rumored to have played a significant role in these areas earlier was reduced to
nil for obvious reasons this time around. Read demonetization. Samajwadi Party seemed to show sympathy for the poor
and many of the other local communities but it seems eradication of poverty has never been their agenda. The poor remained poor and the backward even more
faded. People no longer had confidence towards the symbol of cycle. The victory of
the BJP should not only mean an environment of celebration but a detailed and
focus work for the development of the people of the state irrespective of
caste, religion or gender. BJP should prove that the choice of the people was justified
and sit down to endeavor right away. It is the right time to put behind past
allegations and work for a better future in the states where they have acquired
majority. No wonder the Modi-wave is flowing through the country but it is the
constant effort towards progress which would keep it afloat in the long run.
Talking from the media point of view, one of the most disturbing things which I have seen was a
debate on NDTV. The topic of discussion was ‘Why did the BJP not field a single
Muslim candidate in UP?’ Even the great Mayawati was quite shocked as to how
BJP won in constituencies where the majority of the population was Muslim. In this age of 2016, people are still playing the Hindu-Muslim card. Shameless! Who gave Mayawati the right to
decide whom the Muslims should or should not vote? Is she the sole representatives of the Muslims that she is questioning their choice? These types of
polarizing comments have been doing more harm than good for the nation. We always judge people
based on which community they belong to. And this isn’t just limited to politics.
We Indians simply went patriotically crazy when Satya Nadella was appointed the CEO of
Microsoft or when Sunder Pichai was announced as the CEO of Google. They being Indians had nothing to do with their appointments. It was because they were talented
and were technically capable of the jobs which elevated them to their respective positions. In a similar way, why do a few Indian
people, especially News Anchors become insanely psychotic when the representatives of
certain constituencies are or aren’t from a particular community? Why should religion be a judgmental
factor while deciding representatives? Why do a few selected people create an
atmosphere of hatred among people? Why do some people can’t accept defeat in an
honorable way? The Nation finally wants to know!
Politics has long been a thing, which hasn’t failed to
entertain people. And thanks to the presence of many clowns like Madam M, this era of statecraft
will forever live on generations.
Jai Hind.
Jai Hind.
