An Initiative for Assamese Film Industry: Local Kung-Fu 2

When was the last time you went to watch an Assamese movie? Can you name that particular movie? Can you remember any particular dialogue from that movie which touched your heart or tickled your bones? And spending the same amount of bucks, would you watch that movie once again? Besides that, can you name at least one upcoming Assamese movie? No?

Years ago, we witnessed quite a number of Assamese movies successfully coming up in movie theatres across the State. The quality of the movies in those times was a delight to the eyes and ears. The songs were equally phenomenal with high melodramatic tunes. Who can forget the title track of Hiya Diya Niya! Aah serenity! Quite contrast to those times, the same cannot be quite said with the present scenario of Assamese movies. There is a supposed void in the industry in prevailing times. For example, in the year 2010, a total of only 3 Assamese movies were released. Times are on the verge of a change but we still have a long way to go! For that to succeed, more and more sensible Assamese movies need to hit the screens!

4 years ago, an Assamese movie by the name of Local Kung-Fu was released. Hugely popular among the Assamese people, it got critical acclaims for its comical dialogues along with well-rehearsed and clinical action scenes. Consequently, it acquired a cult following among the youth and grown-ups alike. After the much-loved success of that movie which was made out of a budget of just 1 lakh rupees, the team of LKF is back with the second part. Unlike the first movie, where the editing and music were quite raw without much finish, part two promises the audience with a finer tuned story and technical credibility. The only obstacle they are facing now is the availability of funds for post-production works. As a result, a crowd-funding campaign has been set up through Wishberry.in, where people can make donations and accordingly claim incentives and other benefits. This is a great initiative by the LKF team as this proceeding guarantees a greater connectivity and relationship with the people of Assam. The film is slated for release around mid-April, provided the people of Assam can make their contributions count. The LKF team comprises of extremely talented actors, led by Kenny Basumatary, who should be named along with the people working towards the development of Assamese cinema. My connection with Local Kung-Fu doesn’t just end with the Assamese factor. The famous No. 1 Under-18 Don studied in the same class with me for two years in my kindergarten days in Little Flower School as well as during my one year Mathematics tutions in class 12. That was confidential information until now! This might be my only claim to fame in life but unlike me, the entire squad of Local Kung-Fu is an extremely accomplished bunch of amazing people. They have done their hard-work and probably have put in more effort than we can imagine. So now it is our turn to help them and make their efforts count. This crowd-funding campaign is actually beneficial for us too, in more fruitful ways than the enticement being offered. It is an opportunity for us to be part of this wonderful film series which in so many ways has shaped the way people look at Assamese movies. And the biggest positive will be after the success of this unified campaign! We all will get to witness Local Kung-Fu2! It’s Now or Never! Let’s all put our hands together and bring this one for Kenny Da and team, and also for the greater good of Assamese film industry!
