Is the Government right in banning porn?

So, some 800-odd porn sites have been banned by the Government! What’s next for our country? Maybe, talking sex would also be banned! Or if luck would have it, even having sex may also be banned! I can think of no words to describe this immaturity on the part of the Government but seriously, this is an insane decision. Don’t we deserve to have an independent decision on being happy? I mean, porn hasn’t killed anyone as of yet!

Porn has long been considered a taboo in India. In fact, the word ‘sex’ scares the crap out of most Indians. Take this as an unconventional feature of Indian society or people’s innate mentality but sex is not an open topic of discussion in our country. Even this blog post of mine may raise a few eyebrows as I am not supposed to discuss about the topic. But who cares!

Banning porn is in a way depriving a person of personal liberty, which is in accordance with Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. In a country like India, where sex education is just a word in the study curriculum, porn provides a tiny source of knowledge amongst teenagers. On a brighter note, a little exposure to these videos gives some valuable knowledge about basic sex. Believe it or not, most teenagers actually gain precious requisites about the human body and its reproductive system from viewing porn instead of their books. In fact, rather than being a curious teen, it is better to resolve the anomalies of the mind. But this is a different discussion altogether.

Everything in this world has a bright and a dark side. I cannot think about any bad effects, but a careful viewing fulfills both knowledge as well as satisfaction. The pleasurable activity of porn is a different issue altogether as it is against the privacy concern to enquire about anything that goes on inside the four walls. None of the developed countries have a rule of banning porn sites and I suppose they concern banning other debatable things than porn. Come on! India is the land of Kamasutra and then, you can’t even access porn sites here! I wished India fitted in a different world than a certain third-world country but pity I was wrong. I leave it to you to decide whether porn sites are a boon or bane for us. Give it a thought!
