Women: Society's Pride

‘Society reflects on the very persons living in it’

The above quote is the reason behind the mindset of the people, precisely living in the Indian society. The results of this very sick mentality are the problems which are a part of everyday life. In India, quite unsurprisingly these things have become part of daily life, to which we turn a blind eye on. If you are still wondering about the choice of my sentences, then refer to the following:

  • In most parts of rural India, mostly the Central part of our country, girls are not allowed to receive basic education.
  • Girls are not allowed to compete in several fields of work.
  • Girls are not allowed to be outside their home after the sun sets in.
  • Girls are not allowed to wear certain clothes.
  • A girl child, if born is aborted in certain parts of the country.
  • Girls are not provided the basic needs for their enhancement and development.
  • Girls are considered mere objects that can be assaulted and harassed against.
  • Girls are considered inferior to boys.

Ok, tell me, don’t you find these silly? We live in a society, where we all know about the injustice faced by women and still not able to change the course of matter. I can go on and on, and still there will be endless such arguments which showcase the position of women in our society. I mean, we read everywhere, books, social media, online articles and blogs that women ought to be respected, women must be given the equal status in the society and this and that. But it gives me a feeling of foolishness to write such things to bring awareness amongst the people. It actually seems that people don’t care about such things. If we, the men don’t care about the dignity and respect of women, who will?

  • Female feticide is still a major issue.
  • Rapes keep on happening.
  • Sexual harassments and assaults have increased.
  • Women are not given equal opportunities in our society.
  • And the most shocking, marital rape is a common occurrence.

Will there be an end to these, ever? Will rapes and other crimes against women ever be eradicated? Is there no way out of these problems? And the most disgusting part: blame women for these very crimes. I won’t elaborate much in this matter as it is useless stating the same things again and again. I actually feel sick living in a country where such thoughts and mindsets prevail. Forget crimes, even freedom has its own ghastly boundaries. Name any freedom and women are denied of it. Reason: Because she is a woman! I mean, this is literally sick. Whatever I write in my blog won’t matter as long as people don’t understand what the problem is: what a woman goes through every day, what problems a woman faces daily, how women fear to live on this planet because of some men and most importantly, understanding a woman, both in terms of mind and heart.

My blog may not bring justice on earth but if every person understands the gravity of the situation, things will definitely take good shape. Can I expect a change? Tomorrow, when I have a daughter, can I expect her to see a much better society? A society where she is respected by everyone equally, has the freedom to wear whatever she feels comfortable in, work in whatever field she has interest in, go out and come back home from work at whatever time she has to and most importantly, not face any kind of crime and get the blame for it later? Can I expect this?

To all the women living on this planet, who may be in the kitchen cooking food for her family or working outside to provide bread and butter for her family or serving in the administration or police service or in the army or playing sports for the country and whichever field she may be in; my mom, maternal and paternal grandmom, sisters, friends, relatives and that one special girl: I am proud of all of you. Planet Earth is privileged for all the works women have done and the sacrifices they have made to keep others happy. A very Happy International Women’s Day!
