Why I loved 24!!

  1.  The main reason why I really liked 24 has to be Anil Kapoor. The look and the soberness in his face with a subtle attitude with which he portrayed Jai Singh Rathod, was out of this world. Before the season kick started, I never imagined Mr. Kapoor would make such a huge difference to it. And he did, with brilliance.
  2.       .    Another reason for striking my likeness was that this was not based on the usual ‘saas bahu’ drama, which is the usual backdrop of our Indian soaps and serials, which dominated my childhood days, thanks to my mom. I was actually dead tired of the kind of environment these Indian soaps and serials created, filled with terrible emotions and tears. The backdrop of 24 was set on politics. And there was a constant suspense throughout the season. As an Indian serial, 24 was indeed refreshing, from the point of view of my country.

    3.      One of the main reasons has to be the length of the season. As based on the original version, which too has 24 episodes per season, the Indian version too had to follow it and make it a 24 episode season. Generally, every Indian soaps and serials would go on to run for decades and still wouldn’t end. If that was not enough, the eldest actress in the serial would go on to become the Great Great Great Grandmom and would survive to see all her Great Great Great Grandchildren till the season comes to an end, and still she wouldn’t die. Height of immortality.

    4.      The most reasonable reason has to be the cast. I must be truly honored and lucky to have witnessed such a talented group of cast from our film industry working together to make the season one of ‘24’ a grand success. Leaving aside Anil Kapoor, it featured the extremely experienced Mandira Bedi, who was the standout act of the season, to Shabana Azmi and also Anupam Kher, all of whom made a special and experienced molded season one. A special mention to Neil Bhoopalam. No one in this world could have played Aditya Singhania with that grace and calm attitude. Truly, hats off to the casting director.

    5.      This season of 24 made me realize that not all love stories have a fairytale ending. Be it Rathod’s daughter who almost fell in love with a stranger (or as it was supposed to be), who initially was part of her kidnapping plan, just because later he helped her escape. Or Rathod’s relation with his wife. Both the love stories ended sadly, with Rathod’s wife shown to leave this world at the end. As for Rathod’s daughter, I don’t know how come she fell for a stranger just because he helped her escape, as he was initially shown to be evil. Anyways, I have never understood girls, and yes for this part, it made the season quite realistic.

You may as well watch seasons like Supernatural, Game of Thrones, HIMYM, Big Bang Theory amongst others which are surely way above super class. But as an Indian serial, I was kind of emotionally attached to 24. There may as well be various other reasons why 24 was a game changer in Indian TV. It surely was for whatever reason may be stated. With curtains pulled on to season one which certainly exceeded my expectations, I am already eagerly waiting for season two. And with high hopes, I certainly hope the storyline is a much better and adrenaline rush than season one. Thank you. Be happy. And keep everyone happy.
