Are Men and Women Equal?

Look at the picture below.

What do you see? Do you find these aircrafts flying around in the sky? No, right.

Now look at this picture below.

Would you be able to use them to store your favorite collection of movies and drama series?

These photographs represent gadgets and entities which were used long ago. We have come a long way from the start of time till the present age. Mankind is making giant leaps of progress in every field of life possible. New technologies are being upgraded, standard of living is being elevated and the time isn't far when the modern day know-how would be even further enhanced. Human beings are continuously flourishing at the tick of every second of the clock. The human evolution has been riding on these hi tech ontogenesis for years now.

Times are fast changing, and for good. But the one thing which has been sadly secluded is the development of the human mind, or precisely the mindset of human beings.

The gender biasing which has been prevalent in various fields, for a prolonged period of time signifies the peak of this under-achieving progress. Males and females have never been considered equals. Men and women are socially given specific roles, which in present scenario sounds grody. Girls can gossip but boys gossiping would end up being a trending troll. Pink is the colour for girls and blue is for boys! It seems as if colour-blindness was an artificial condition to hide from social humiliation. Housewife sounds perfectly normal but house-husband would sound awfully grungy even to termites. A man riding a bike is one of the coolest passions in the present rat race but a female riding a bike would bring down the skies upon each one of us! A tattoo on the body of a man equals badass but on a woman's body, it spells repugnant.

A gorgeous tattoo design on an elegant female body
A female must not swear and the usage of foul language is against her cultures but a male can literally gobble up the entire scatological and obscene dictionary and not even the molecules of these self-proclaimed guards of the society would actuate.

A male actor can wear this costume below and it's perfectly normal.

But a female actor dressing in an elegantly fashionable sense maddens the entire country's protectors.

A significant example of this discrepancy can also be seen in the most madly followed sport in our country: Cricket. The Indian population considers cricket as their religion and the Dhonis & Kohlis as their Gods, with Tendulkar being the Supreme One. But what about the Goddesses of the same religion? Cricket crazy nation, rightaway!

If we look closer at everyday life acquaintances, we can view more of such prejudices.

Women are not allowed to enter certain places of worship. Why?

Men can consume liquor and smoke freely without anybody pointing a single finger at them. But if a woman does the same, the entire society would jump to a conclusion where they would completely categorize them as 'characterless' and term them as 'bitches'.

Quite a modern thinking process, we possess! This way of thinking needs to be refined. And it must begin with us, the present generation.

Before concluding, let me round this post up with a couple of questions.

When do you think a boy is ready for marriage and start his family?

And when do you think a girl is?

Did you find substantial differences in your answers? Were both of your answers entirely of contradistinction nature? If yes, worry not. This is the way society has programmed these ideas within our mind. It is high time we move on from these primeval way of reasoning.

Life exists on this planet due to the pillars built by both men and women with their equal accomplishments. Why do we always look down on women? Why do we consider females as the weaker sex? The balance of life is possible only with the help of both the genders contributing equally. One gender must not leapfrog the other.

Recall the photographs at the beginning of this post. Why do we think human beings moved on from those techs? Because we found better and more efficient contrivances than those used previously. Same needs to be applied on our introspection regarding gender equality. It is high time we treat both as righteously equals.

Jai Hind.
