Should minorities from Bangladesh be allowed to stay in India?

It was one fine, warm morning.
The sun rose from the customary East and its rays squeezed through every possible obstacle to glitter our planet with its serene brightness. Such an energetic environment evokes the feeling of an actively fresh mind. Morning time is a good way to arouse positivity within us. And when everything seemed heavenly, a beeline of ‘lungi-clad’ labourers struck my eyes, waiting for a lorry to carry them to their place of daily work. Whether it is the society or the age-old lingo, for an Assamese person, a lungi-clad labourer is stared down as an illegal Bangladeshi. We also precisely call them as 'miyaa'. At present times, such humans apparently are roaming every nook and corner of our state. In fact, the day isn't far when the Bangladeshi population would totally outnumber the indigenous Assamese population. Such is the alarming situation we are in.

Judge me or not, nobody really cares. Nobody would even like to care. For one party, they have been acting as a vote bank. Cheap to buy as labours, these people have been mainly responsible for most of the crimes within the city. If you don't believe me, kindly refer to their 'Godly names' when you come across any news of theft, robbery or rape within the state of Assam. Isn't this the substantive scenario we have been facing for a very ridiculously long time? I don’t think any one of us should feel guilty about these lungi-clad crooks because any person who illegally crosses the International Border to enter into our country is a serious offender. Videos of such bunch of scoundrels plunging through the barbed wires across the borders have been circulating, yet no action is taken to settle out this concern. It is very unfortunate that successive governments have failed to curb this problem and we still wait for a final solution to this problem.

Cut to September 2015. The Centre took a decision to allow minorities from Bangladesh who entered our country post the formation of Bangladesh, to stay in India without any passport or visa on humanitarian grounds. In other words, Mr. Modi has no problem about non-Muslims staying illegally in Assam. I mean, I do not understand this kind of hypocrisy. When our state stood firm about the illegal Bangladeshis matter, it did not differentiate any of those foreigners on any possible grounds. An illegal migrant from Bangladesh is a crummy criminal irrespective of sex or religion. Then, why is the Centre adamant on allowing minorities, especially Hindus from Bangladesh to stay in Assam without any proper papers? Isn't this transgression to the Bengali speaking Muslims from Bangladesh who are on a similar situation? Why is a different stand being taken on religious grounds by adeptly citing humanitarian grounds? I am very much sure this disastrous step by the government would come back to haunt us in the future.

A Bangladeshi is a Bangladeshi whether he is a Muslim, Hindu or Christian. None of those foreigners should be given asylum in our country, for the resources of this land has been depleting rather fast. The indigenous people should be protected from outsiders. I hope Modi realizes this fact fast enough. At the rate which the Government is supporting everything in the name of Hinduism, the day wouldn't be far when the world looks down on our country as the Hindu version of Pakistan. Mr. Modi, please, do not let that happen!

Jai Hind.
