Being a Male: Girls' Honor
“…….Main
to tandoori murgi hu yaat
Gatka
le saiyyan alcohol se……………..”
“………Log
kehte hain mujhe main to hu namkin butter
Kaat doongi main dil ko meri jawani hai cutter………….”
These above lines aren’t a proof of my poetry
skills. Those are part of a very emblematic item song from a typical bhai film.
In a country where we feed the public with such creative lyrics, I can imagine
the type of mentality, people possess with utmost modesty. And no wonder when a
few select individuals decide to grope on their tandoori chicken, we rise
through our comfort zone to protest against the failures of the government and
the police force to curb such incidents. Have we ever wondered where does the
entire mistake lie? Can such setbacks ever be avoided? Or has those few select
male fraternity gone to the lowest of the lows in this crummy degradation track
of the society as a whole?
A few days back there was an incident in Bengaluru, where a girl
was groped and molested by a non-functioning kooky pervert with his partner in
crime on a bike, in a dark alley while a number of bystanders and passers-by
stood there being silent observers to the entire incident. Thankfully the gross
commotion was recorded in a CCTV.
Now, let me put forward a few arguments.
Was she wearing short revealing clothes? No, right? Then why was
she followed and attacked by those men?
Was she under the influence of alcohol? Again, no right? Then why
did they flounder her?
Now let me say this, even if she was under the influence of booze
and wore revealing clothes, who gave those senseless morons the right to even
touch her? This is the thing which is most disturbing in our country. When
people observe a girl wearing clothes which is out of their imagination, they
perceive it as an opportunity rather than responsibility. Such shameful taste!
It is not just about that incident. It is about India, as an
entire nation! And do you know where the problem lies? It lies right within us,
the society. We have grown up hearing such non-sense from a very small age, be
it from relatives or be it the television. Whenever there is any such incident,
we always have a tendency to look at the girl in a skeptical manner. We either put
the entire blame on her wearing short skirts due to which she attracted male
attention, her drinking and smoking habits or her life revolving male friends.
We blame it on everything which is related to her except the criminals, who had
the audacity to perform such a heinous crime on her. It is such an ironical stigma to have so many Goddesses whom we worship without any dignity for the females of our society!
Maybe we should start focusing and change our viewpoint before the
world starts laughing at us like they do when talking about some of the
Middle-Eastern countries and their laws pertaining women. Yes, I am serious
about it. For example, in a country like Iran, the rules and regulations put down for women are absolutely disgusting to even have a look. If you have no clue about them, then read about it here.
It is really hideous to think about how a few humans treat women. A
really augmented word, ‘Feminism’ rose to prominence due to these few select
individuals. It might sound harsh but honestly, it denotes only the elevation
of female power and nothing else. What people are failing to look beyond all
this is: Equality. It is equality amongst us all, that we vaguely talk
theoretically and which is the need of the hour. If people want to play the
blame-game then, they should not only blame the girls for consuming alcohol which
apparently seems like the root cause about incidents like the 31st
night in Bengaluru. Men, under the influence of alcohol should be equally criticized.
If girls aren’t allowed to wear Western clothes, maybe men should also be
banned from wearing jeans and tees, and instead go out only in traditional
Indian dresses. While girls aren’t allowed to roam around late at night, men
should be prohibited from stepping out of their house at night too! Only then, it
seems that such unfortunate episodes would come to an end!
But doesn’t it sound insane? Banning men from wearing western
clothes and roaming around at night?
Yes, that is how insane it sounds when a few politicians lecture
about the dress code of girls and their habits for such gruesome matters. As a
male human being, I want to confirm that these individuals creating such ruckus
in our society aren’t categorized as males or even human beings. If hell exists,
then there is a special place for them there. And I also want to assure all the
women out there that all males are not the same. I would also like to say that
truce and accord would be ensured in the presence of us within the entire
planet. I would also ensure that awareness about all these would be reached to
the maximum individuals! Till then, remain safe. Stay healthy. Learn a few basic
martial arts fighting methods for self-defense. Let us together eradicate this
evil from our community! Let us stay united!
Jai Hind!
Well articulated. A serious issue that needs to be resolved and uncontrolled male animalistic hormones to be checked. And most importantly a ban on such crap lyrical songs that promote and glorify such horrendous acts.
ReplyDeleteIts very important we train our boy child at home, if the training at home is right, then we get more youths as respectable as you are...very well said Ankit, infact you spoke my heart. I involve my little son in watching these news about women on the TV and try to make him understand the situation.
ReplyDeleteVery well written. Highlights the mentality of a majority of people, specially from our country. The various problems like objectification of women, social bindings on women, burden on a women to protect herself from 'getting raped or undue male attention ',the unfair, biased, gender based laws... And this is just the tip of the iceberg.. We need to change ourselves first. Our boys/men need to know that possessing certain physical attributes and anatomical part does not make one superior...
