5 Reasons You Should Definitely Watch Dangal
There has been quite a number of films based on boxing.
A few
Hollywood movies and a couple of Bollywood movies here and there. But never was
a movie made on wrestling created such a buzz like Dangal. Thanks to the
presence of Mr. Perfectionist and his recent video on his weight
transformation, the movie got the much-required publicity. As a sports and quiz
follower, the names of Geeta Phogat, Babita Kumari and Vinesh Phogat (their
cousin) had always been in my books but watching an entire film based on their
life was something very phenomenal. Dangal is an incredible film which showcases the life and struggles of sports-persons like Geeta and Babita, along with their father Mahavir. Exceptional performances from Sakshi
Tanwar, Zaira Wasim, Aparshakti Khurrana amongst others makes the film an
amazing watch! Here are the 5 main reasons why you should hop for the theatres
to watch Dangal:
1. Aamir Khan: You might love him or hate him,
might complain that he used high-end supplements to progress his weight
transformation but you can’t deny the fact that Aamir chooses his films wisely
and he perfects the role very efficiently. From being an aged father to being a
mentor-coach to his daughters, while also portraying a young and muscular Mahavir
for a few seconds, Aamir portrays the role as fluently as you can wish for.
There’s a special reason why he is known as Perfectionist, for being able to
portray the character of a college student, an alien and an overweight-matured
patriarch over the last few years with absolute precision.
2. Wrestling: Making a wrestling movie isn’t easy
for the amount of professionalism involved within it. And one of the many
disadvantages which it holds is the lack of knowledge amongst majority of the Indians
about this sport, which is no cricket. But from the very start, you would be
involved in the movie with a sense of soulfulness as if wrestling has always
been your favourite sport. The power-packed moves and the intensity with which
the actors, including a young Zaira Wasim delivers it, is a treat to watch.
Quite honestly, Dangal is a gem!
3. No Romance: For quite some time, this was
almost a dictatorial rule in Bollywood. A cheesy love story, boy falling in
love with the girl, obstacles on the way to marriage and finally,
love-wins-against-all-odds were the primary ingredients of making a successful Bollywood
movie. Thanks to a few out-of-the-box directors, we have seen movies swaying
away from those traditional mumbo-jumbos and delivering movies like Dangal. The devotion shown by a father towards the training of his daughters is the biggest form of affection in the movie. At
one point in the second half, an impression of love arouses upon the character of
Geeta, but thanks to the makers, it was portrayed as just a distraction in her glorious
journey to win the Gold medal for India. See, this is such a realistic situation!
4. No wasteful song and dance: This is another one of the many
reasons I don’t usually get the urge to watch movies made in our country. Every
time, I get the correct concentration regarding the movie, a song pops out of
nowhere with random useless dancers in the foreground dancing in sync, along
with the lead actors. Well, Dangal doesn’t have such awkwardness and hence,
adds to the taste of my kind of movies. Instead, the energetic and vivid songs,
played along with equally intensified music in the background gives you the correct
feel of competitiveness throughout. Potential workout music, everyone!
5. Fatima Sana Shaikh: Aah finally! This was the main logic
why I had to point out the previous 4 reasons for posting this blog. She is the main reason why
you should watch Dangal. Remember the cute, little girl from Chachi 420? She’s
all grown up! She is as charming and dazzling from her childhood days and even
has a dimple when she smiles, which increases the cuteness level tenfold! The way she portrayed
Geeta, it felt like she was born for this role and has been a professional
wrestler herself. In short, she is ‘love’ in the purest way! ‘Love at first
sight’ has always been my kind of problem and watching her escalated it
profoundly! Fatima Sana Shaikh, remember the name!
All Hail Fatima!
All Hail Mr. Perfectionist!
All Hail Dangal!
p.s: There was another moment of delight for me while watching the movie. When Geeta won her gold medal, the National Anthem was played within the film, to which everyone in the theatre, including me stood up with great pride! So those of you who are arguing whether to stand up or not when the National Anthem is being played, should rest in peace.

ReplyDeleteAppreciate it. I haven't yet seen the movie, can't say much. To me, Bollywood doesn't really appeal at all. Read this piece, https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianCinema/comments/5pd0ki/dangal_my_observations_of_a_deeply_flawed_film/
