Is India giving birth to food-Taliban?
Long back, in the year 1947, the year when
our big nation was partitioned to form two separate nations, our leaders virtually
boasted of some great expectations. Expectations that people living in this
side of the country will have better life conditions. Expectations that India
would be a secular state unlike Pakistan. Expectations that Indians would be
able to live a much more free life than their peers on the other side of the nation.
Fast forward some 60-odd years. We are
theoretically still living in a secular country. But in reality, are we really?
Are we really living in a society where there is tolerance for each and every other
person, irrespective of religion, caste or sex? Or is the concept of ‘Dream
India’ just a mere façade?
It felt good about what we studied in our
school text books about the way India is different from other countries.
Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains and even Parsis are supposed to live
happily together in our country, as was claimed in the books. But everything
seems so hypocritical. People fight each other in the name of religion, caste
and over every other possible thing. There seems to be no peace around, sadly.
Recently, a man was lynched in suspicion of
storing and eating beef in Dadri. I mean how can such senseless incidents
happen in our nation. Similar incidents are being framed in many other parts
of India, like in Jammu & Kashmir. People are merely getting killed in the
name of food. Is India coming to an era where people would fight each other
even in the name of consuming certain foods? Will there be restriction even in
the department of food?
Beef, as we all know is not consumed by
Hindus. No one is forcing Hindus to consume it. But why are some moron groups
killing our Muslim brothers for consuming beef? Who gives them the right to frame
rules for others’ eating habits? Who are we to command others to eat or not to
eat something? Indians rue about the Taliban and the terrorist situation in
Pakistan, but isn’t this exactly the same that is taking place in India?
It is high time our NDA Government take some
stern action regarding this scenario. The integrity of our country must be
protected from some radical groups. India is a very diverse country and as
citizens, we need to respect and protect our diversity. Intolerance must be
kicked out of India, for the country to strive forward. I am still a Modi fan
but I wish he takes some serious steps in preventing further shame on our
society.
