Game of Thrones:Season 5, Episode 8
Spoilers alert!
When finally, the much-anticipated season 5 went on air, it
didn’t impress me much. The story was going at rather slow patches and a few of
the events gravely disappointed me too. Sansa’s wedding to the evil Ramsay and
subsequently her rape on the wedding night made me rethink twice. The fact that
Sansa was one of the most victimized characters on the show, I expected a bit
of mercy from the producers. Pity Sansa! Sigh! On the other hand, the Sand
Snakes (read: daughters of the late Oberyn Martell) skillfully and charmingly
impressed me with their fighting scene as well as that teasing scene in the
jail. And lastly, even though Cersei is an evil lady, she deserves to be
outside, not in a cell! And I really do hope her face would be the last thing
Cepta Unella(that irritating lady who brings water for Cersei in the cell)
sees!
I did not have any high expectations for the eighth episode
even though surprises are a key to the Game of Thrones aura. Tyrion meeting Daenerys
marks an exciting prospect of a Lannister and a Targaryen finally crossing
paths. The incidence of Tyrion meeting the Dragon Queen excites me simply
because of the brain power, Tyrion possesses. At least, for the time being she
would take some sensible decisions rather than listening to the testosterone-filled,
all-brawns-no-brains Daario Naharis. Elsewhere, Sansa is surely in grave danger
and in evil hands. I hope she is rescued as soon as possible. Meanwhile, in
King’s Landing, The High Sparrow is creating more radical rules than Kim
Jong-Un, the real-life fanatic Korean leader. But the highlight of this season,
or probably the entire series of GoT has to be the final 15-20 minutes. Jon
Snow and some fellow members of the Night’s Watch, along with Tormund, row to
Hardhome to convince the Wildlings to join forces with the Night’s Watch, during
the hard times ahead. The Walkers sure do have their ears on the ground as they
launch an attack aftermath the meeting. The fight sequence of the Walkers with
the Crows-Wildlings even betters the battle between the Crows and the Wildlings
in Season 4. You wait in anticipation for the death of one of your favorite
character during the face-off but the sheer brilliance of the surprise battle
evades everything. The epic high point is the fight between a knight of the
White Walker army and Jon Snow. This does not end with the usual victory of the
hero but with Jon, almost being worn out and also having acquired the knowledge
that his sword can actually kill-off a White Walker.
So, what’s next for Game of Thrones? Will we lose yet another
of our favorite character in Season 5, with whom we have got attached to? What
will be the plan of Jon Snow now, having lost all those precious
dragon-glasses?
That stare down the river from the Night King of the White
Walkers, towards Jon Snow had definitely sent shivers down him. And for the
first time, he has been challenged in this magnitude. Quite amazingly, this
episode ends with the sound of the rowing of the boats, not the usual musical
ending.
Television shows will come and television shows will go but
this eighth episode of the fifth season of Game of Thrones will go down in the
history of television as one of the most epic and heart-thumping episodes ever to be watched on television.
Valar Morghulis!
