The Big Reunion!
A whole 5 years passed since my batch of classmates got
together at one, single place.
5 years passed since that emotional, tear-filled
last day of high school. 5 years on, we are still missing those high school
days: the fun, the togetherness, the careless chats and those nostalgic classes
of boring subjects like History, Political Sciences amongst others. The more I
think about those days, the more emotional thoughts linger in my mind. For
every student, these days are extremely memorable. And once I had done thinking
about those amazing days, it was almost time for the get-together party. 5
years was a long time. Barring my shyness, every aspect of my personality had
undergone a drastic change during this period. Or so I believed. I can now
speak to girls, almost. (Yes, I tried) I was the one boy in my class who barely
spoke to girls. You can even replace ‘barely’ with ‘never’, and still the sense
remains same with me. Such was my behavior that most of the girls might have
thought I was a gay. Now, you might wonder why I wander off the topic so
rapidly. Well, fear not. The reunion took place. And in a great manner.
The gravity of the meet was decided as ‘Food Villa’, a popular
food joint, near the famous Cotton College. If you have ever visited ‘Food
Villa’, you ought to see many young, pretty, beautiful ladies. You might be
tempted to happily wonder that all the pretty girls of Guwahati had landed on
that place on the same day as you. Your eyes and brain would be on a war as to
decide which one is the prettiest of the lot. The only drawback of this
procedure is that the girls wouldn’t be alone there. They would be either with
their uncharacteristic, over-stupid boyfriends or with their loving moms. That
might demotivate you a bit but this place is worth a visit. Now, as soon as all
of us arrived, mixed emotions followed it. Some of us haven’t seen each other
for years, so some were extremely shocked to see the kind of changes time had
brought about in them. For example, one of our friends who weighed a mere 50+
kg, turned into a muscle-filled, protein-diet-follower huge person. He now
weighed some 80-odd kilograms. Another friend, who was short enough to compete
for the title of ‘the shortest man on the planet’, was now tall enough to
measure around 5ft 6-7 inch. It was almost metaphorically evident that time and
tide waits for none. Barring a few, everybody was almost the same. Some became
fat. Some became thin. One tall, while other muscular. Some were still single,
others coupled. But what felt good was that everybody was the same at heart.
Everyone had almost the same personality. Time may have had brought about vast
changes physically, but emotionally no one had changed. The food was good. The
environment was even better with old memories filling the air. This was
followed with laughter, cheers and a photograph session, where the girls
clearly outshone the boys because generally, boys including me didn’t know how
to give an amusing pose!
With time flying at the speed of light, the wonderful
occasion ended pretty fast. This get-together was a much-needed one. It brought
out some well-cherished, wonderful memories. It made us even closer than
before. And with this, I hope that we would remain connected with each other
throughout our lives and would never forget each other. That, in the future
such reunion parties would be held more often so that we value each other and never
ever break the ever-lasting bond of friendship. Thank you, my dear friends, and
a Happy New Year.
It was a memorable night. Will remember it for years to come. And well written mate. Emotions put into exact words. Cheers.
